WINNER of the Falling Walls competition: Hannah Schneider

The Falling Walls Conference is a unique international platform for leaders from the worlds of science, business, politics, the arts, and society. It was initiated on the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall and the question at every Falling Walls gathering is: Which walls will fall next? The conference fosters discussions on research and innovation and promotes the latest scientific findings among a broad audience from all sections of society.

Falling Walls Labs are international events where academics, young entrepreneurs, and professionals have three minutes to present innovative ideas that could have a positive impact on society. The Juelich Fallling Walls lab took place on July 4th with 15 participants from all over Germany. Prof. Wolfgang Marquardt, with 6 other jury members, selected three finalists to present their breakthrough idea at the ‘Global Finale – Falling Walls Lab’ in Berlin. Hannah Schneider (IBG-2) won first place and will travel with Alexey Yakushenko (PGI-8) and Vitali Weißbecker (IEK-3) to the Falling Walls Conference in Berlin in November. Hannah presented her ideas on feeding the growing global population by improving plant roots.
