FZJ Excellence Prize 2013 for Dr. Giuseppe Mercurio
Dr. Giuseppe Mercurio, PhD student of PGI-3 who recently graduated, has been awarded the Excellence Prize 2013 of the Forschungszentrum Jülich . The subject of his PhD research was the interaction of organic molecules with metal surfaces. Organic-metal interfaces are important, e.g., in organic solar cells or organic light emitting diodes. Dr. Mercurio also investigated molecular switches. His experiments were conducted at the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF) in Grenoble by means of the Normal Incidence X-ray Standing Wave (NIXSW) technique. In 2012, Dr. Mercurio has already been awarded the prestigious Max Auwärter Prize for his dissertation. Dr. Mercurio continues his scientific career at the Center of Free-Electron Laser Science in Hamburg.
