Scanning Tunnelling Hydrogen Microscopy

Scanning Tunneling Hydrogen Microscopy

Hydrogen sharpens microscopic images of single molecules, making them resemble structural formulae as shown in chemistry textbooks. We first reported this effect in 2008 [1] and termed it “Scanning Tunnelling Hydrogen Microscopy”, or STHM in short. Since then, we have studied the mechanism of STHM in detail. The results of these experiments were reported in 2010 in Refs. [2] and [3]. Easy-to-understand accounts of STHM have appeared in Physik in unserer Zeit [4] (in German) and in Imaging& Microscopy [5] (in English).

Reports about STHM have been published, among others, in Chemistry World [6], Nature Nanotechnology [7], Nature Physics [8] and the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung. If you are interested in applying STHM in your own research, please do not hesitate to contact us for further information.
