Benchmark experiments on molecular switches pose a challenge to theory
Molecular switches offer great prospects in nanoelectronics. Most applications, however, require them to be supported on a solid surface of some kind. It is well-known that the interaction between the molecular switch and the solid support may influence the switching functionality. Understanding this interaction is therefore important. In a recent research article in Physical Review Letters, we have reported benchmarks experiments of high precision that constitute a stringent test even for state-of-the-art theories.
