Features of Transport in Ultrathin Gold Nanowire Structures

The origin of the interface formation appearing due to the realisation of contacts to ultrathin gold nanowire devices is revealed. Such interfaces play an important role in transport mechanisms in nanowire structures and can determine the electrical and operating parameters of corresponding nanodevices. The formation of such interfaces was verified by scanning tunnelling microscopy and aberration corrected transmission electron microscopy at 80 kV using a supporting graphene layer. Gold nanorods covered with oleylamine molecules which act as a molecular barrier interface have been investigated in detail.
