Tiny Organisms, Big Achievements

Fourth "Biotech Day" at Forschungszentrum Jülich

Jülich, 30 October 2015 – Bread, cheese, wine, and beer: for thousands of years, people have exploited the metabolism of microorganisms to produce these. Today, we call the work done by tiny organisms white biotechnology. Basic and fine chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and proteins are produced in large quantities by biological processes. On Friday, scientists and representatives of industry came together at Forschungszentrum Jülich's fourth Biotech Day to discuss new findings from this discipline and the resulting opportunities for new products.
