AMS Completes Fifth Year on ISS

Jülich, 9 December 2016 – For five years now the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer (AMS) has been orbiting the Earth at an altitude of 400 kilometres on the International Space Station (ISS). The unique measuring instrument was sent on its journey back in 2011 and has since recorded 90 billion charged particles from cosmic rays. This data set now for the first time enables conclusions to be drawn from the highest-energy processes in our galaxy, thus also providing clues to answering the major questions of modern physics.
