Error-Free Quantum Bits

Quantum computers are viewed as ultrafast computers of the future. However, they still need to overcome various hurdles before they are effectively realized. One of the biggest obstacles is the susceptibility of quantum bits to errors. A quantum error correction process is therefore required. Together with colleagues from Aachen and Sheffield, Barbara Terhal, a Jülich scientist involved in the Jülich Aachen Research Alliance (JARA), has compiled a range of current theories on quantum error correction.
