assistent/Stellvertretender head of department INM-1; Groupleader "Genomic Imaging" at INM-1

Diploma in Biology

Head ofthe molecular genetics research laboratory at the Institute of Human Genetics, Department of Genomics, Life & Brain Center, University of Bonn

Research Topics:

Genomic Imaging: Influence of genetic factors on the healthy and sick brain

The international Human Genome Project has delivered a complete sequence of the human genome to the scientific community and has formed the basis to gain fascinating insights into the extent of genetic variability in humans. In the course of the past few years, these findings have enabled the identification of genetic risk factors for neuropsychiatric and neurodegenerative diseases. An important step towards understanding the pathophysiology will be a detailed investigation of the risk genes by genomic imaging. The research group genomic imagingaims to find out which structural and functional changes are caused by these genetic variants and how they contribute to the development of neuropsychiatric and neurodegenerative diseases.

Research Methods:

  • Molecular genetic analysis of genetic variability in the human genome
  • Structural and functional MRI of the living brain
