Development of the central nervous system and its changes because of ageing and diseases
The structure of the human central nervous system changes during its development, but also because of ageing and e.g. neurodegenerative diseases. In particular the latter changes might be accompanied by losses of cognitive or motor abilities or by psychic changes. For the understanding of these processes it is important to localize and quantify precisely such changes of the central nervous system. For this purpose we developed image analysis techniques like the deformation field morphometry, which were applied in several clinical studies.
