Doctoral Researcher

Research Topic:

  • Phenotypical and neurobiological investigation of depression and depressive symptoms

Methodological Topics:

  • Psychiatric disorders
  • Dimensional and symptom-based approaches to psychiatry
  • Multi-modal MRI
  • Multivariate methods & machine learning
  • Brain-behaviour relationship
  • Non-negative Matrix Factorization

My research objective is to elucidate the aetiopathological paths that lead to the development of psychopathology, with a transdiagnostic approach that takes into account the interplay of biological predisposition, quality of relationships and socio-environmental factors across development. I am interested, in particular, in understanding how this complex interaction shapes individual differences in the vulnerability to mental disorders and in the underlying neural functioning.
To achieve this overarching goal, my current work focuses on identifying the phenotypical and neurobiological features that describe and predict depressive symptoms, in both clinical and community populations. My PhD project aims at investigating the factor structure of major depression and its subclinical manifestations, the associated personological and cognitive variables, and the multi-modal MRI markers that can predict these conditions.
