Shape Determines Order

Regularly ordered crystals can be formed from cubic nanoparticles by means of self-assembly and not only from spherical nanoparticles. In this process, the shape of the particles largely determines the structure of the crystals as reported by an international research team from Jülich, Stockholm, Liège and Hyogo, Japan. This work represents a breakthrough in understanding the structure of such mesocrystals, which are three-dimensionally ordered structures of nanoparticles arising through self-assembly.
