New findings on information codes in brain
Jülich, 23 November 2011 – Researchers from Jülich and Berlin have discovered that groups of neurons shaped like loops can take on an enormous range of patterns and thus create information codes.
The team of scientists headed by Dr. Oleksandr Popovych made use of mathematical models in their work.
These models will help scientists to recognize healthy activity patterns in the living brain and to develop new forms of treatment for Parkinson's disease or tinnitus.
The results have been published in the current issue of the scientific journal "Physical Review Letters".
