Using Virtual Reality to Improve Weather and Flood Forecasts
Jülich, 2 December 2013 – Water and energy flows between the groundwater region, surface of the earth, and the atmosphere are complex. A research group involving Jülich is using virtual reality in an effort to understand these processes better as well as to optimize weather and flood forecasts. The scientists will simulate the Neckar basin on the Jülich supercomputer JUQUEEN and perform virtual measurements. The German Research Foundation (DFG) is providing funding for the group worth some € 2.1 million over the next three years.
