Up Into Climate-Relevant Ice Clouds!

Jülich, 24 March 2014 – When the research aircraft HALO takes off today from Oberpfaffenhofen in Bavaria on its first flight in the “Mid-Latitude (ML) Cirrus” mission, it will have Jülich measuring instruments on board. Until 17 April, these will record data over Europe and the North Atlantic on the water vapour and ice contained in ice clouds as well as on the number and size of the ice particles. The results will be used to help refine climate computer models and make climate forecasts more reliable.
