Better Understanding of Climate with Commercial Airliners

Jülich, 21 October 2014 – The European research infrastructure IAGOS equips long-haul aircraft operated by large commercial airlines with measuring instruments in order to analyse the distribution of climate-relevant trace substances in the atmosphere. These data are important in terms of documenting and improving our understanding of the effects of climate change. On Monday at Forschungszentrum Jülich, Thomas Rachel, Member of the German Bundestag, gave the green light for the main phase of IAGOS and officially announced the federal government’s decision to grant the project more than € 5.4 million.
