SenseUp – A Success Story "made in Jülich"

Jülich, 8 September 2017 – The "SenseUp" sensor technology developed by Jülich researchers Georg Schaumann and Stephan Binder makes it possible to quickly and efficiently identify highly productive microorganisms capable of producing valuable basic building blocks for foodstuffs from renewable raw materials. During the three-year pilot phase, Schaumann and Binder advanced the technology from an idea to market maturity and founded their spin-off company, SenseUp GmbH. During the second phase, the method will be developed from laboratory to industrial scale. Investments and funding totalling € 3.5 million are now available to them in order to achieve this. The Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) alone is contributing € 2.3 million as part of the GoBio biotechnology start-up offensive. Research State Secretary Thomas Rachel (member of the Bundestag) was therefore delighted to confer the funding notification in person.
