Nitrogen Oxides in Düsseldorf: New Data Show Distribution of Pollutants

Jülich, 2 May 2018 – In February, the regional television and radio station WDR accompanied Forschungszentrum Jülich’s MOBILAB on a campaign measuring nitrogen oxide in Düsseldorf. In March, WDR also used 172 additionally installed passive collectors in Düsseldorf in order to record the nitrogen oxide pollution for four weeks. WDR has now presented the results of its measurement campaign to Jülich’s Institute of Energy and Climate Research. After analysing the data, Dr. Robert Wegener from the MOBILAB team came to the conclusion that no statement can be made on whether or not the annual limit of 40 micrograms of nitrogen oxide per cubic metre of air was exceeded. However, in his opinion, the “extraordinarily high data density” allows the distribution of nitrogen oxide in Düsseldorf to be displayed more precisely.
