The Jülich Supercomputing Centre (JSC) one of the three national supercomputing centres in Germany. It is partnering with leading technology providers on co-design hardware architectures for future supercomputers. In this context we are looking to recruit a

PhD Student

for research on current and future architectures for single-cell genomics. The research will be performed within the data science project "Sparse2Big".

Your Job:

  • Definition of relevant scientific use cases in the area of single cell genomics
  • Mapping of use case performance signatures and architectural characteristics
  • Definition, implementation and evaluation of proofs-of-concepts
  • Definition of the architecture for an application-optimised e-infrastructure

Your Profile:

  • University degree in computer sciences, computational biology, computational physics or other computational or data science areas
  • Strong background in computer architectures
  • Experience in programming in C or C++ and in using scripting languages commonly used on Unix systems
  • Experience in parallel programming is desirable
  • Good command of English
  • Ability and willingness to work in an international, interdisciplinary and distributed teams as well as to assume responsibility
