PhD position on “DNA epigenetic modification in neurons”

PI: Prof. Dr. Paolo Carloni

A 3-year Ph.D position is available on DNA epigenetic modification in neurons at the IAS-5 / INM-9 Computational Biomedicine Institute of Forschungszentrum Jülich.

In human biology and medicine, the field of epigenetics is booming, yet very few studies have appeared trying to decipher molecular mechanisms associated with DNA epigenetic modification in neurons. In this context, this research project will aim to understand the function of enzymes involved in neuroepigenetics mechanisms using multiscale molecular simulation approaches.

The suitable candidate for this position is an outstanding, motivated young scientist, who holds a master in Chemistry, Physics or related disciplines. She/he should possess a GRE certificate attesting her/his proficiency in the English language. Familiarity with basics of biophysics as well as with basic tools from molecular modeling and molecular simulation is a plus. Knowledge of code programming is also preferred, but it is not essential.

Payment of the Ph.D fellow will be based on salary grade EG 13 (50%) Collective Agreement for the Civil Service (TVöD).

The candidate is encouraged to send an e-mail to Prof. Paolo Carloni (p.carloni@fz-juelich.de) or Dr. Riccardo Guareschi (r.guareschi@fz-juelich.de) providing a CV, a motivation letter (one page maximum), and the names of two referees.

The received documents will be screened by an evaluating committee and, based on the expertise and the records of the scientific career; the shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview, by teleconference if necessary.
