PhD position: Microbial production of plant metabolites

About us
With more than 5000 employees, Forschungszentrum Jülich is one of the largest research centres across Europe. The Institute of Bio- and Geosciences (IBG-1: Biotechnology) performs research in the field of molecular and applied microbiology.

The PhD candidate will work in the ERA-CoBioTech project MeMBrane and will be part of the “Synthetic Cell Factories”-group of the IBG-1. Current projects of our group focus on the metabolic engineering of bacteria and the development of biosensor-based high-throughput screening technologies.

Project and Methodology

We are seeking a highly motivated PhD student to study and engineer the transport of aromatic compounds in Corynebacterium glutamicum. Classical and cutting edge molecular, genetic and biochemical methods will be applied as well as comparative transcriptome analysis (DNA-microarrays) and HPLC-MS analytics.

Your Profile
Suitable candidates must hold or achieve a Diploma or Master´s degree in Microbiology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, or related fields. Applicants should have a solid theoretical and practical knowledge of modern microbiology, molecular biology and biochemistry and should be highly motivated. We expect soft skills, efficiency and team-work.
