Master / Bachelor Thesis: Modeling and Simulating human movements typical in sport motor activity

The Central Institute of Engineering, Electronics and Analytics – Electronic Systems (ZEA-2) is a scientific and technical institute of the Forschungszentrum Jülich GmbH, which performs research and development projects in cooperation with the institutes of the Forschungszentrum and external partners. The focus of the work is the development of electronic and information technology system solutions in sensor technology and detector technology, signal and data processing as well as measurement technology.

Background and Task:
The institute ZEA-2 develops a scalable system for high precision posture and movement analysis to be applied in sports and medical diagnosis (see validation fund project) together with an industrial partner in in this area within the framework of a validation fund project. The project requires a Matlab / Simulink model generating artificial movement data typical in sports activities. Based on these data adapted filter compositions will be optimized and a mechanical reference system shall be build up to artificially generate human movements with highest accuracy.

Your profile:
We search for students of physics, electrical engineering, applied mathematics, or sport sciences who are interested in mathematical modeling and statistical data analysis. Knowledge and/or interest in biomechanics or motor function in sports respectively and the preparedness for self-contained exchange with our industrial partner are expected.

We offer:

  • The opportunity to work together in a team of highly motivated scientists and engineers
  • Interdisciplinary work in a development project very close to application (we fulfil ISO 9001:2015)
  • Further development of your personal abilities in connection within a socially balanced work environment

We will be glad to assist you in your initial personalized training.

The Forschungszentrum Jülich GmbH would like to increase the number of employees in this area. We are therefore particularly interested in female applicants. Applications made by disabled people are particularly welcome.

We aroused your curiosity and your interest? Let us talk about it!
