PhD Position in Electrolyte Research for Energy Storage

The Institute of Energy and Climate Research – Helmholtz Institute Münster for Ionics in Energy Storage (IEK-12) was founded in July 2014. It operates as a branch office of Forschungszentrum Jülich together with the University of Münster (WWU) and RWTH Aachen University. IEK-12 focusses on electrolyte research considered as a key for new battery concepts. The electrolyte is a central part of most electrochemical storage devices including batteries and is highly crucial for achieving affordable and abundantly available renewable energy sources.

This position is embedded into a project funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research. Your job will include the following:

  • valuation of (electro-)chemical processes at electrode surfaces
  • Identification of structure-property-relations of electrolyte-electrode interfaces
  • Determination of transient charge carrier distributions within cells
  • Magnetic resonance based analysis of materials and cells

Your Profile:

  • Master degree in chemistry, materials science or a related discipline
  • Basic knowledge of electrochemistry
  • Some proficiency in German and willingness to participate in graduate teaching
  • High motivation for pursuing a PhD within 3 years
  • Fluent in English
