Postdoc (f/m) for collaboration within the German Plant Phentoyping Network (DPPN): phenotyping under field conditions

The Institute of Bio- and Geosciences, IBG-2 Plant Sciences, at the Research Center Jülich has a nationally and internationally leading role in quantitative assessment of structural and functional plant traits with non-invasive methods. Within the framework of the project DPPN (Deutsches Pflanzen Phänotypisierungsnetzwerk; www.dppn.de) we will develop new concepts and non-invasive approaches for high throughput plant phenotyping in greenhouse and flied applications.

For the earliest possible date we are looking to recruit a

Postdoc (f/m) for collaboration within the German Plant Phentoyping Network (DPPN): phenotyping under field conditions

Your Job:

The phenotyping approaches include in particular the implementation of non-invasive methods such as chlorophyll-fluorescence, VIS-, NIR- imaging, thermography, spectral imaging in the field to measure the response of crops to elevated CO2 conditions in FACE (Fee Air CO2 Enrichment) experiments. Your duties include the establishment of these methods and the performance and analysis of phenotyping experiments, writing of reports and scientific publications. Experience in the application methods for non-invasive assessment of plant performance and analysis of imaging approaches are welcome. Experience in the field of plant phenotyping is advantageous.

Your Profile:

  • scientist with Ph.D. in plant biology, agronomy or related field
  • very good knowledge (theoretical and practical) in application of non-invasive sensors for the assessment of different structural and functional plant traits; very good knowledge of the whole plant physiology is not mandatory
  • experience in designing and performing of field experiments
  • pronounced technical understanding and experience in installation and application of automated methods and approaches for the assessment of plant traits in the field are welcome
  • ability to work independently and in an international research team,
  • very good knowledge of written and spoken English, i.a. proofed by publications in renowned scientific magazines
