Plants are the fundamental basis of nutrition as well as raw materials and recyclables starting material for the energetic and material use of biomass. At the Institute of Bio- and Geosciences - Institute Plant Science (IBG - 2) an integrated approach for the intensification and sustainability of crop production and plant utilization will be developed to enable sustainable crop production for the bio-economy of the future.

Postdoc quantitative root and rhizosphere phenotyping

Your Job:

  • Phenotype root architecture traits and root x microbe traits using model crop species wheat, maize and soybeans
  • QTL mapping
  • Discovery of root x microbe phenotypes for application in agriculture
  • Quantitative phenotyping experiments, incl. statistical analysis, with automated phenotyping systems; e.g. based on non-invasive imaging time-series (in 2- and/or 3-D)

Your Profile:

  • Scientist with a Ph.D. in biosciences, plant biology, agronomy or related field
  • Knowledge of plant-environment interactions and root phenotypic plasticity
  • Experience in conducting research using crop model systems and/or experience in phenotypic characterization of diverse crop germplasm collections
  • Experience working with microorganisms (seed- applied biologicals)
  • Experience in the application of non-invasive methods for the quantitative evaluation of plant structure and function, including experience handling large plant numbers
  • Experience in statistical methods for evaluating effects of various treatments and detection of QTL in mapping populations
  • Ability to work independently and in a research team including technical personnel
  • Knowledge of both written and spoken English
