The Jülich Supercomputing Centre (JSC) operates one of the most powerful supercomputer infrastructures for scientific and technical applications in Europe and makes it available to scientists at the Research Centre, in Germany and Europe for research purposes.
The JSC employs its own expert group as Cross-Sectional Team Visualization (CST-Vis), which focuses on the visualization of large data on high-performance computers. In particular, the CST-Vis is focused on the application-oriented research and development of next generation visualization solutions such as in-situ visualization and the presentation of scientific simulation data using virtual reality. This also includes the planning, installation and operation of high-level visualization systems and the necessary visualization libraries and tools as well as complex parallel visualization packages.

We are looking to recruit a

Software developer in the field of visualization of scientific data with focus on interactive supercomputing

Your Job:

Your task will be to develop software components that enable intuitive, user-friendly access to HPC systems with the aim of interactive, collaborative analysis and visualization of scientific data. Modern display systems, such as touch-capable display walls and VR glasses, will be used for the work.

In particular, your tasks are:

  • Research and development of new methods for interactive, collaborative data visualization
  • Development of web applications based on Jupyter to access HPC resources
  • Design and implementation of Python scripts to extend the functionalities of web interfaces
  • Integration of existing visualization packages into the web interfaces
  • Acquisition of workflows and data flows in data visualization and their mapping in software
  • Testing of collaborative visualization techniques in cooperation with other data centers
  • Transfer of the proven techniques into a service concept for HPC users

Your Profile:

  • University degree in Scientific Programming, Computer Science, Physics or a related subject
  • Knowledge in the field of data visualization
  • Sound knowledge and experience in web development (HTML5, JavaScript)
  • Proficient use of the scripting language Python
  • Experience in object-oriented software development and software engineering
  • Experience with at least one higher programming language (preferably C++)
  • Safe handling of Unix-based operating systems
  • Interest in close cooperation with developers and users from science and industry
  • Good English language skills (written and spoken)
  • Ability to cooperate and a strong individual initiative

Desirable knowledge and/or experience in the fields:
  • Good German language skills (written and spoken)
  • Application programming on parallel supercomputers
