The Jülich Supercomputing Centre (JSC), embedded in the lively research environment of the Forschungszentrum Jülich, is one of the three national supercomputing centres in Germany. It is partnering with leading technology providers to co-design hardware architectures for future supercomputers.
In the context of the European Processor Initiate (EPI) we perform research on co-design of a future server processor. For this processor a system-on-a-chip (SoC) design is pursued to facilitate, in particular, its integration in a scalable, dense supercomputer architecture.

We are looking to recruit a

Research Scientist specialising on co-design for server processor architectures

Your Job:

  • Design and implementation of a suite of application benchmarks and mini-applications
  • Analysis and documentation of application requirements for micro-, processor and system architecture
  • Coordination of these activities within a team of co-design and benchmarking experts
  • Close interaction with hardware and software developers to analyse and quickly provide answers to design questions, based on the applications’ performance and requirements
  • Evaluation of the processor architecture based on models and simulators
  • Contribute to the definition of the full system architecture and the definition of a design and integration methodology
  • Contribute to the specification of the power management system of the SoCs

Your Profile:

  • University degree in computer sciences or relevant computational science areas like physics, chemistry, biology
  • Strong background in computer architectures and/or computational sciences
  • Experience in programming in C or C++ and in using scripting languages commonly used on Unix systems
  • Background in processor design or similar qualifications (e.g. FPGA design) are desirable
  • Experience in parallel programming is desirable
  • Good command of English
  • Ability and willingness to work in an international, interdisciplinary and distributed teams as well as to assume responsibility
