The IEK-10 (modelling of energy systems), which takes over central tasks in the LLEC, is concerned with the development of tailor-made models and algorithms for the simulation and optimisation of decentralised, integrated energy systems. Such systems are characterized by a high temporal and local variability of the supply and demand of energy as well as by an intensive coupling of material and energy flows. Research at IEK-10 aims at providing scalable and real-time capable methods and tools that enable the energy-optimized, cost-efficient and secure design and operation of future energy systems.

Software developer for the development of a web-based energy dashboard

Your Job:

Drastically reducing greenhouse gas emissions, increasing energy efficiency as quickly as possible and switching to renewable energies - these are the goals of the energy turnaround. At the same time, it is important to keep the price of electricity affordable for industry and consumers. The project "Living Lab Energy Campus" (LLEC) of Forschungszentrum Jülich wants to find solutions for these ambitious tasks. With the LLEC, the Jülich research campus is to become a real laboratory for energy system transformation in which the latest scientific findings are tested for their effectiveness and suitability for everyday use.
Your tasks include conception, design and development of (data-oriented) software solutions, both for users and for backend development, in the research area of the institute as well as in the context "Machine Learning - Data Analysis - Big Data", in particular:

  • Development and programming of complex simulation platforms for energy system models for in-depth scientific analysis and evaluation, e.g. as a basis for recommendations for action for industrial users and political decision-makers.
  • Development of software tools for automated data analysis, which facilitate sorting and structuring for the user and provide a new, supportive approach for research by means of integrated administration, interpretation and evaluation mechanisms.
  • Integration of web interfaces for user-friendly operation and application

Your Profile:

  • Very well completed scientific university studies in computer science (Master) and good mathematical background
  • Very good knowledge and experience in programming with higher programming languages, e.g. Java, C++
  • Experience with Python
  • Good knowledge and experience in the development of web applications
  • Knowledge in the creation of dynamic websites (HTML / CSS / JavaScript / PHP)
  • Excellent ability for cooperative collaboration
  • Excellent communication skills in English
  • Knowledge in data analysis / Big Data
  • Experience in Human-Computer Interactions
  • Experiences in "Machine Learning
  • Knowledge of modelling, preferably of energy systems
  • Strong analytical skills
