The Jülich Supercomputing Centre (JSC) operates one of the most powerful supercomputer infrastructures for scientific and technical applications in Europe and makes it available to scientists in the research centre, in Germany and Europe for research purposes. The department "Federated Systems and Data" at JSC develops and operates software for data analysis, data management and access to distributed storage and computer systems together with scientific users.

We are looking to recruit a

Information Technology assistant in the area of data Services and cloud infrastructure

Your Job:

In many scientific disciplines, the analysis and management of large data sets have a central role. You will work in an interdisciplinary team at JSC with scientists from other institutes at Forschungszentrum Jülich and european partners in various research fields.
Your activities include:

  • Scientific analysis and development of workflows
  • Porting of applications and user interfaces to the data and compute infrastructure
  • Supporting research groups in managing data and using the cloud infrastructure

Your Profile:

  • University degree (Bachelor or Master) or scientific university degree in computer science, mathematics of a related subject or comparable education (e.g. mathematical-technical software developer, IT specialist)
  • Knowledge of the OpenStack software platform and its components
  • Knowledge of the Linux operating system and Bash scripting
  • Knowledge of common programming tools and software distribution systems (e.g. Docker, Easybuild)
  • Experience in software development and programming with languages such as Python, Java and C++
  • Willingness to cooperate intensively with developers and users from science and industry
  • Personal initiative
  • Good command of spoken and written English


  • Knowledge of web programming (Java Script, php) or web frameworks (Django)
  • Knowledge of web services and distributed systems
  • Knowledge of written and spoken German
