The Jülich Supercomputing Centre (JSC) at Forschungszentrum Jülich operates one of the most powerful supercomputer infrastructures for scientific and engineering applications in Europe and grants scientists in Germany and Europe access to these resources for their research. The division "Federated Systems and Data" at JSC develops and operates software for data analysis, data management and access to distributed storage and computer systems together with scientific users and participates in relevant national and international initiatives and projects on various research topics.

Software Developer

Your Job:

As part of a team at JSC, you work together interdisciplinarily with scientists from other institutes at Forschungszentrum Jülich and European partners from various research fields, in particular the neurosciences and earth system research. In software development you will:

  • Develop services to support scientists in the use of HPC and cloud infrastructures
  • Realize innovative and challenging projects in the field of cloud computing
  • Participate in all phases of the software lifecycle in your team
  • You will be in close contact with the domain scientists, software developers and service providers at Forschungszentrum Jülich and coordinate your work with external partners.


Your Profile:

  • Scientific university degree in computer science, mathematics, natural sciences or a related subject
  • Experience in software development and programming with languages such as Python, Java and C++
  • Knowledge of the Linux operating system and Bash scripting
  • Willingness to cooperate intensively with developers and users from science and industry
  • Personal initiative
  • Good command of spoken and written English



Desirable are:

  • Knowledge of common tools for programming, software distribution and configuration (e.g. Git, Docker, Puppet)
  • Knowledge of web services, distributed systems, cloud computing (OpenStack)
  • Knowledge of web programming (Java Script, php) or web frameworks (Django)
  • Knowledge of written and spoken German
