Mechanics of Energy Materials

We are seeking qualified applicants for teaching and research in the area of mechanics of energy materials for a joint position with Forschungszentrum Jülich GmbH. The starting date is as soon as possible. Recognized expertise in the following areas is particularly welcome: Extended experience in material science and mechanical properties of coated and uncoated materials, i. e. metal/ceramic composites, especially in the fields of creep, fatique and thermo- mechanical fatique (TMF) for high temperature application in the energy sector, documented by publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals.

The focus of the research activities will be at the Institute of Energy and Climate Research – Microstructure and Properties of Materials (IEK-2) at Forschungszentrum Jülich GmbH and the successful candidate will be head of these research activities at the Institute of Energy and Climate Research (IEK-2) at Forschungszentrum Jülich GmbH. In addition to the experimental and theoretical investigation of degradation mechanisms, research also focusses on the development of models for service-lifetime prediction for highly stressed components in energy technology, which forms an important contribution to the development of flexible energy converter systems with fast thermal start-up and ramp-down phases. In the future, it is expected to further extend the currently considered thermal-mechanical loading by chemically induced stresses and strains in high performance energy storage materials.

A Ph.D. degree is required; additionally, Habilitation (post-doctoral lecturing qualification), an exemplary record of research achievement as an assistant / an associate / a junior professor or university researcher and/or an outstanding career outside academia are highly desirable. Ability in and commitment to teaching are essential. German is not necessary to begin but will be expected as a teaching language within the first 5 years.
