Head of the division “Integrated Circuit Design”

In accordance with the “Jülich Model”, the successful applicant will also be appointed to a professorship (grade W2) for Integrated Circuits for Experimental Systems at RWTH Aachen University. It will be linked to the Department of Physics in the Faculty of Mathematics, Computers Science and Natural Sciences.

The Central Institute of Engineering, Electronics and Analytics - Electronic Systems (ZEA-2) is a central institute at the Forschungszentrum Jülich. It conducts research and development projects in cooperation with other institutes at the Forschungszentrum and external partners. It is focused on the development of solutions for electronics and IT-systems for complex tasks in sensor and detector technology, signal and data processing, and instrumentation and imaging. The projects arise from large-scale experiments in physics, environmental and energy research, information technology and the life sciences. An active participation in these projects is expected.

The activities should concentrate on the development of modern, adaptive and configurable system-on-chip (SoC) ICs in basic CMOS processes. Of particular interest are low-noise conditioning and digital processing of detector and sensor signals, efficient and scalable digital circuits, robust systems for extreme operating conditions (vacuum, magnetic fields, etc.), concepts for in-situ calibration, test- and verification and optical data exchange components. The candidate should develop these concepts in close collaboration with the project groups and lead them to a successful implementation.

Contributions to the teaching activities in experimental Physics at RWTH Aachen University are expected, for example with courses in electronics or participation in the lab-classes for bachelor and master students.

Successful applicants will have completed a university degree followed by a PhD and should be able to demonstrate additional scientific achievements in the form of a postdoctoral qualification, activities within the framework of a junior professorship, or research work at a university, research institution or outside academia.

Applications from women are particularly welcome. The implementation of equal opportunities is a cornerstone of our staff policy at Forschungszentrum Jülich for which we have received the “TOTAL E-QUALITY” award. RWTH Aachen University has also received the “TOTAL E-QUALITY” award for its efforts in ensuring equal opportunities for men and women. Applications from women will be given preference in the case of equal suitability, qualifications and experience, unless special reasons concerning the person of a male candidate outweigh these considerations. Attention is drawn to Art. 8, para. 1, of the Equal Opportunities Act of the Federal State of North Rhine-Westphalia (LGG).

Applications from suitable candidates with disabilities are explicitly encouraged. This also holds for those with similar incapacities in the sense of Art. 2 SGB IX. RWTH Aachen University has been named as a “disability-friendly” employer for its commitment to training and employing severely disabled people.

Applications comprising curriculum vitae, list of publications and short summary of past and planned scientific activities and existing experience in teaching should be sent by Mai 15th 2013 to
