Director at the Helmholtz Institute Erlangen-Nürnberg for Renewable Energy Production (HI ERN)

Forschungszentrum Jülich and Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU) are jointly seeking to appoint an internationally recognised researcher to the post of Director
at the Helmholtz Institute Erlangen-Nürnberg for Renewable Energy Production (HI ERN).

HI ERN is operated by Forschungszentrum Jülich in cooperation with FAU and Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin.
In accordance with the “Jülich Model”, the successful applicant will be appointed professor (salary grade W3) of electrocatalysis at FAU. The position is linked to the Faculty of Engineering and the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering. The place of employment will be Erlangen.

HI ERN performs research and development on materials- and process-based solutions for the climate-neutral and sustainable use of renewable energy at acceptable costs for society. At HI ERN, researchers from Forschungszentrum Jülich, Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin, and FAU work together on this common goal. Research at the institute focuses on the fields of hydrogen as a secondary energy carrier and printable photovoltaics.

We are seeking an internationally respected researcher in the field of electrocatalysis, who is capable of further developing in particular the material and process engineering principles of electrolytic water splitting at the highest scientific level. It is envisaged that research activities will be complementary to and interlinked with work at Jülich's Institute of Energy and Climate Research (IEK) with its sub-institutes involved in electrochemical, process engineering, and materials science research, and with research work at the Erlangen cluster of excellence Engineering of Advanced Materials.

The successful candidate is expected to have the necessary qualities to lead an institute as well as the willingness to cooperate as part of HI ERN with the relevant institutes of Forschungszentrum Jülich, and with colleagues from the FAU Departments of Chemical and Biological Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering as well as Chemistry and Pharmacy. In addition to involvement in teaching duties at the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering, the candidate will be expected to acquire additional third-party funding.

Prerequisites for the position are a university degree, a doctoral degree, ability to teach at a university, and additional academic achievements. These prerequisites can be documented by a Habilitation or equivalent academic qualifications, which may also have been obtained in the non-university sector or as a junior professor.
