Director at the Helmholtz Institute Münster (HI MS) Ionics in Energy Storage

In a joint procedure, Forschungszentrum Jülich and the University of Münster (WWU) are seeking to appoint an internationally respected scientist to the post of

DIRECTOR
at the Helmholtz Institute Münster (HI MS) Ionics in Energy Storage

in conjunction with a

W3 university professorship “Functional Polymers” at the Department of Chemistry and Pharmacy of WWU.

HI MS is operated by Forschungszentrum Jülich in cooperation with WWU and RWTH Aachen University. In accordance with the “Jülich Model”, the successful applicant will also be appointed professor (grade W3) at WWU’s Department of Chemistry and Pharmacy. The place of employment will be Münster.

At HI MS, researchers from Forschungszentrum Jülich, RWTH Aachen University, and WWU work together. Their focus is on the synthesis, characterization, and processing of electrolyte components for electrochemical energy storage.

We are seeking an internationally respected research scientist in the field of macromolecular chemistry, who is capable of further developing the synthesis of innovative functional polymers as well as their structure-property relationships, in particular for electrochemical applications, at the highest scientific level.

It is envisaged that research activities will be closely coordinated with work at Forschungszentrum Jülich’s Institute of Energy and Climate Research (IEK) with its subinstitutes specializing in electrochemistry, materials science, and process engineering, and with research work at WWU, in particular at Münster Electrochemical Energy Technology (MEET) and the Department of Chemistry and Pharmacy. Active participation in the Board of Directors of MEET is expected.

The successful candidate is expected to have the qualities required to head an institute and the willingness to cooperate within HI MS as well as with the relevant institutes of Forschungszentrum Jülich, and with colleagues at WWU and RWTH Aachen University. In addition to teaching duties at the Department of Chemistry and Pharmacy, active involvement is expected in the existing interdisciplinary projects in the field of battery and energy materials, in acquiring additional third-party funding, and in setting up coordinated projects.

Prerequisites for the position are a university degree, a doctoral degree, and additional academic experience in the form of a junior professorship, a habilitation, or a position as a research scientist at a university, non-university research institution, in industry, administration, or another sector of society both in Germany and abroad.

WWU and Forschungszentrum Jülich are equal opportunities employers and pursue a policy of excluding all types of discrimination. Applications from women scientists are particularly welcome. Applications from women will be given preference in the case of equal suitability, qualifications, and experience, unless special reasons concerning the person of a male candidate outweigh these considerations. Applications from suitable candidates with disabilities are explicitly encouraged and in case of equal qualification will be given preference in accordance with state equal opportunity legislation. WWU has been awarded the accolade “audit familiengerechte hochschule” for its family-friendliness and Forschungszentrum Jülich has been certified as family-friendly as part of the “audit berufundfamilie” initiative. Both institutions also offer support for dual career couples.

Applications in English should be sent with the usual documentation (CV, copies of certificates, list of publications, teaching experience, brief summary of previous research activities including a list of third-party funding, research concept for the position advertised) preferably by email by 18.01.2016 to
