Professorship in Microbial Biotechnology
(grade W2 of German university scale, Jülicher Modell)

The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences of Heinrich-Heine-University Düsseldorf and Forschungszentrum Jülich (Jülich Research Centre) are seeking to expand their expertise in microbiology at the earliest possible date. We invite applications for a Professorship in Microbial Biotechnology (grade W2 of German university scale, Jülicher Modell).

We are seeking an individual who has achieved international recognition in the field of microbial biotechnology, proven by relevant publications in international scientific journals. The candidate should combine basic and applied research with established and new model microorganisms including synthetic biology approaches. Successful acquisition of competitive third-party funding must be demonstrated. Furthermore, serious commitment to participate in university-level teaching and university administrative activities is expected. International research experience as well as experience in
academic self-governance is desirable.

The successful candidate is expected to collaborate closely within Forschungszentrum Jülich and Heinrich-Heine-University Düsseldorf. The research focus of the successful candidate should expand the
scientific focus of the research area “Systemic Microbiology” of the Institute of Bio- and Geosciences 1: Biotechnology at Forschungszentrum Jülich as well as strengthen the Bioeconomy Science Center (BioSC) and core research areas of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at Heinrich-Heine-University. Adequate participation in teaching activities of the department of biology is expected on all academic levels.

Conditions for employment are, in addition to general administrative conditions in accordance with § 36 of the North Rhine-Westphalia University Act (Gesetz über die Hochschulen des Landes Nordrhein-Westfalen), either a Habilitation or similar achievements and exceptional scientific performance in the mentioned fields.
