Understanding Root Behavior
Since Darwin's puzzled observation of root oscillatory behaviors, also known as circumnutations, the reasons and factors that regulate the amplitude of these oscillations remain largely unknown. In this talk, I will put forward a novel hypothesis and a simple unified model of stimulus-driven behavior capable of explaining experimental data and generating novel predictions. I will also mention ongoing work in using this model to control an artificial root system in physics-based simulations and in a novel robotic device.
