Abstract:

Cubes in the form of superballs, shapes that interpolate between spheres and sharp-edged cubes, can be prepared from iron-oxide templates covered by an amorphous silica shell [1]. The shape of the rounded cubes has many interesting consequences such as cube-stabilized Pickering emulsions, cubic mosaics, and co-assembly of colloids and surfactants [2]. Charged cubes also motivated a recent re-assessment of the DLVO theory for strongly overlapping flat double-layers [3].
