The Hadron Physics Summer School 2014 (HPSS2014) is jointly organized by scientists from the Institut für Kernphysik of the Jülich Center for Hadron Physics, Forschungszentrum Jülich, and the Universities Bonn, Bochum and Giessen. The summer school is jointly financed by Forschungszentrum Jülich, the Helmholtz International Center for FAIR, the Transregio TR16 (Subnuclear Structure of Matter) funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) and the Collaborative Research Center CRC110 (Symmetries and the Emergence of Structure in QCD) funded by DFG and National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC).
The school comprises lectures and working groups on theoretical, experimental, and accelerator aspects. The focus is on current issues in hadron physics with emphasis on the latest programs at the accelerators COSY (Jülich) and ELSA (Bonn), also featuring future FAIR projects like HESR/PANDA, PAX and the search for electric dipole moments of charged particles in storage rings (JEDI).
The schools are typically attended by about 60 graduate and advanced undergraduate students from various countries. This year, the school is directly preceeded by a Hadron Physics Summer Preschool (HPSP2014) with the aim to prepare a limited group of undergraduate students for the participation in HPSS2014. The preschool is sponsored by the European Commission HadronPhysics3/MesonNet project.
