Atomistic spin dynamics as a tool for magnetization studies in realistic devices

Magnetic materials are a very important class of materials in industry and modern technology. They are the basis for many electrical and electromechanical devices such as electromagnets, electric motors, generators, transformers, magnetic storage such as hard disks.  We have in recent years developed a reliable theoretical framework for studies of magnetization dynamics in realistic devices, the atomistic spin dynamics (ASD) method. In the talk I will review the basics of the method and some of the latest developments including :
- Magnons in low dimensional magnetic and magnonic systems.
- Ultrafast remagnetization dynamics
- Domain wall motion by spin-Seebeck effect
- Massive parallel implementation capable of treating several billions of atoms
