Skyrmions in chiral and frustrated magnets

Chiral skyrmion states exist in non-centrosymmetric magnetic crystals as a consequence of the asymmetric exchange Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interactions that destroy the homogeneous magnetic state and generally lead to twisted incommensurate magnetic spin-structures. Geometrically frustrated magnets with a triangular lattice may also give rise to skyrmion states due to the interplay of nearest-(J1) and next-nearest neighbour (J2) interactions.
In my talk, I will discuss phenomenological description of skyrmions in chiral and frustrated magnets, microscopic mechanisms for their stabilization, and both their common and distinct properties.
