Jülich Workshop on IBM Quantum Cloud Computing

Anfang
13.02.2017 13:00 Uhr
Ende
13.02.2017 17:00 Uhr
Veranstaltungsort
Seminar Room N-142/143, Peter Grünberg Institute, Building 04.8

Scope

The goal of this informal workshop at Forschungszentrum Jülich is to discuss the idea of future IBM quantum cloud computers for computation and simulation.

Such devices (under current development at IBM) can be viewed as a follow-up of the successful 5-qubit IBM Quantum Experience on which one can run a small quantum circuit.

During the workshop, participants can:

  • hear about the hardware, the current state of the art in quantum computing as well as research ideas on what to do with current imperfect/small gate-based quantum devices.
  • discuss the development of API and software to interface with the device (and optimize its functionality)
  • provide feedback and input about their own research interests with respect to such devices.

Scientists from IBM Research will be present both at FZ Jülich and via video-conference to give their perspective and research input.

The schedule for the afternoon's events is as follows:

13.00-13.15Round of Introduction & Goal of Workshop
13.15-13.45B.M. Terhal (RWTH Aachen/FZ Jülich): 'Survey: Quantum Circuits, Quantum Algorithms'
13.45-14.15D.P. DiVincenzo (FZ Jülich): 'Survey: Superconducting Qubit Hardware'
14.15-14.30Discussion
14.30-15.00K.Temme (IBM Watson Research): ‘Quantum Simulations with Noisy Qubits’
15.00-15.30D. Willsch (Jülich Supercomputing Center): 'Our experience with the IBM Quantum Experience'
15.30-16.00 Coffee & Tea Break
16.00-16.30 A. Kandala (IBM Watson Research) via video-conference: 'Investigation of Quantum Chemistry with a Hardware Efficient Approach’
16.30-17.00Q & A with IBM via video-conference (J. Gambetta, Manager Theory of Quantum Computing and Information, IBM Watson) & Final Discussion

If you are outside Jülich (coming from Aachen) and you are interested in attending this workshop, please send an email to Ms Luise Snyders by 06 February at the latest.
