QPACE3 - Quantum Chromodynamics Parallel Computing on the Cell


QPACE3 (Quantum Chromodynamics Parallel Computing on the Cell - 3rd generation) is a massively parallel and scalable computer architecture optimized for lattice quantum chromodynamics (LQCD).


The QPACE3 system is available for selected projects.

Hardware Characteristics
  • Phase I: 4 Racks with 352 Fujitsu PRIMERGY CX1640 M1 nodes (started operation in 6 December 2016)

    • Processors: Intel Xeon Phi 7210 (Knights Landing), 64 cores/256 threads, 1.30 GHz
    • Overall peak performance: 937 TFlops
    • Main memory: 16.896 TB RAM (aggregate)
    • Liquid cooling via Fujitsu RackCDU V3 Horizontal

    • Network: Intel Omni-Path 100 Gb/s

    • Power consumption: 110 kW (aggregate)
    • Power efficiency: 5806 MFlops/W (#5 Green500, SC16)

    • Operating System: CentOS 7.3

       

  • Phase II: 4 Racks with 320 Fujitsu PRIMERGY CX1640 M1 nodes (started operation on 6 July 2017)

    • Processors: Intel Xeon Phi 7210 (Knights Landing), 64 cores/256 threads, 1.30 GHz
    • Overall peak performance: 852 TFlops
    • Main memory: 30.720 TB RAM (aggregate)
    • Liquid cooling via Fujitsu RackCDU V3 Horizontal

    • Network: Intel Omni-Path 100 Gb/s

    • Power consumption: 98 kW (aggregate)
    • Operating System: CentOS 7.3
