Modelling and Simulation

Computer simulation is an indispensable tool in evaluating and verifying theory: It can be used to incite new theoretical ideas, to investigate artificial models,or it may provide a realistic substitute for the laboratory in cases where experimentation turns out to be difficult or impossible to conduct. The simulation of complex systems in natural science or engineering depends on the development of adequate mathematical models. Thus the development of realistic and yet efficient models is a core activity at JSC. JSC focuses on simulations from scientific areas which are able to exploit the power of supercomputers of the highest performance class.
