D-Grid Integration Project
The German Grid initiative, named D-Grid Initiative, develops a Grid infrastructure for Germany. This infrastructure will improve e-Science methods within the German science communities. Essentially, the D-Grid Integration Project (DGI) together with community projects will provide this infrastructure as a base for future research in the entire german science community.
The D-Grid Integration project aims at the provision and support of a Grid infrastructure for e-Science in Germany. In particular, the partners in this project will focus on the integration of applications from the community projects into this emerging Grid infrastructure. Once the D-Grid infrastructure is established, the D-Grid Integration Project will take the role as a Grid services and Grid resources provider for the entire German science community.
The contribution of the Research Centre Juelich is located within three areas inside the DGI: Within WP1 the contribution focusses on developing central infrastructure services (resources and user management) and on packaging the UNICORE Grid middleware to the specific needs in D-Grid and the provision and support of configuration utilities for UNICORE. Within WP2 the supercomputer resources at the Research Centre Jülich will be integrated into the D-Grid infrastructure. This includes the installation of tools related to monitoring, accounting, and middleware software. Within WP3 the focus is on alternative transport protocolls and Grid firewalls.
