EUDAT

European Data Infrastructure

The EUDAT vision is to support a Collaborative Data Infrastructure which will allow researchers to share data within and between communities and enable them to carry out their research effectively. EUDAT aims to provide a solution that will be affordable, trustworthy, robust, persistent and easy to use. EUDATprovides a sustainable platform of technologies, tools and services driven by user needs. The project will produce the common low-level services that are required to provide the level of interoperation and trust of data that is necessary to support both widespread access to data, and the long-term preservation of data for use and re-use.

The first stage in the process is capturing use cases and "service cases" from the various research communities within the EUDAT consortium, extracting functional and non-functional requirements from those and establishing the criteria that will be used to evaluate the resulting services prior to deployment. The initial set of basic services comprises of:

  • Safe Replication
  • Data Staging
  • Simple Store
  • Metadata Service

The project also includes research activities, especially the assessment of scalability of the future Collaborative Data Infrastructures.
