WissNetGrid

Networks of Knowledge in the Grid

In most scientific fields the term "knowledge" is understood as cross-linked information. According to this definition information becomes knowledge if it is found in a context that makes the information adequately usable. The information is derived from data by assigning a structure and meaning which is originating from the sum of experience of the people. The current D-Grid infrastructure primarily covers the data level with technical resources like computing, networks, storage and software. The actual content like research and production data, documents, pictures etc. as well as the know-how and the processing tools, is generated, transported, processed and maintained within the separate communities. Nevertheless, current cooperative and interdisciplinary environments in research and business lack sufficient integration and are of limited use.

WissNetGrid Pyramide

Users, D-Grid communities, and D-Grid resource providers can use and offer resources under economic conditions through the SLA layer. Service demands that require a certain Quality of Service (QoS) are matched with corresponding offers by means of SLAs. SLAs will be automatically created, negotiated, and monitored by the SLA layer exploiting further D-Grid services such as Monitoring and Accounting. As a result both, academic and industrial users, can use D-Grid efficiently.
