There are no such things as applied sciences, only applications of science.
(Louis Pasteur)

Our group is fascinated by the complex regulatory networks and design principles microorganisms have evolved to adapt to ever changing environments and to interact with other living species. We are convinced that this fundamental knowledge on the molecular mechanisms of bacterial gene regulation and signal transduction is key for a successful implementation of these mechanisms in synthetic biology approaches and metabolic engineering. Our laboratory studies Corynebacterium glutamicum as a major model organism, which is not only an interesting model species of the Actinobacteria, but also represents one of the most important biotechnological platform organisms.
