FLUORESCENCE FROM THE LEAF TO THE SATELLITE

In preparation of the FLEX satellite mission, an international measurement campaign was conducted in Udine, Italy.

The airborne high-performance imaging spectrometer HyPlant, which was developed by IBG-2 (Forschungszentrum Jülich), was used to quantify light absorption and fluorescence emission of a novel breeding line of soybean. These soybeans have a greatly reduced chlorophyll content by maintaining almost the same yield.

An international team of researchers from the Forschungszentrum Jülich, the Universities of Milano, Poznan and others combined resources to understand the interplay between light absorption, photosynthesis and fluorescence emission in crops.
