Electric Fields

Dynamic Light Scattering, Electric Birefringence and Microscopy under in-situ Electric-Fields

The Electrical Cell: The electrical cell consists of two ITO glass substrates, where the sample is contained within a circular spacer of typically 1 to 2 mm thickness. This optically transparent cell is connected to an Avtech function generator that can apply different wave forms in the frequency range up to 300 kHz and a field amplitude of 200 Volts (Fig.1 gives a photo and a schematic of the cell).

The electric cell can be shared between a small angle dynamic light scattering set up, an electric birefringence set up and a microscope. An overview of the complete set up is given in the photo in Fig.2
