Cell-stretching for the understanding of human diseases

Jülich, 18th November, 2014 - Within RWTH Aachen’s joint project “MechCell”( boost fund OPBF071) examining the influence of mechanical signals on human and animal cells the Institute of Complex Systems: Biomechanics (ICS-7) is leading the experimental support for the mechanical signals “elasticity” and “stretching”. For this purpose, systems had been developed tailored for cyclic straining of cell systems of a very wide range. Numerous institutes of the Aachen University Hospital are currently being provided with these systems. Freely selectable strain parameters enable the characterization of most different cell types, for example connective tissue cells, cartilage cells and also stem cells.
